I don’t even try to go outside today. The weather reports call for high temperatures. By mid-afternoon, it’s gone up to 105 degrees Fahrenheit. I don't know how useful taking the temperature of people entering malls can be today. The air itself has a fever. When I find where I'd left my water bottle, it's still full of water from sometime last year. I empty it, clean it out, then fill it with boiling water for a while. I’ll have it with me this week. I don’t think I’ll enjoy walking to work as much as usual. Reports tell us that the weather will be about the same. At least we can look forward to rain sometime around October. The temperature hasn’t bothered me at home today. I live in a hole in the ground, surrounded by insulation. I wear a sweatshirt all day. For lunch, I have the last of the cholent that I made and froze months ago. This batch was disappointing. Barbecue sauce helps. For dinner, I have a hamburger with hummus in a pita. I make the latest version of JoeBowls as lunches for the week: brown rice, fava beans, tahini, swiss chard, cranberries, and walnuts. Then I get back to battling my computer network and, eventually, sleep.
