Friday shopping: Disappointments in the larger city. The record store doesn't have the new disc by a favorite ensemble, but the clerk, when I tell him of it, orders several. He knows that other workers will also dive on it. I try to find where two shops for coffee gear are, supposedly on the same street, a few doors from each other. Other shopkeepers tell me that both closed years ago. Apparently no one told their webmasters. Back in my city, I get to a bakery at the last moment to buy challah. They're already mopping down the shop's floor, but a worker sits outside near a rack that is still almost full of freshly baked loaves. He's only doing cash transactions. I want one challah, but he insists that I buy two at a discount. I shrug, get both, and put one in the freezer when I get home.
