According to the solar-powered display, my bus has been due in six to nine minutes for the past twelve. As I wait, I see a young girl with implausibly long hair walking in circles trying to take the perfect selfie. When I catch a glimpse of the image on her phone, I can see that she has settled on just the right camera angle to capture most (but not all) of her face. She is still searching for the perfect background. It's apparently one without me in it. As she stares into the screen, focused on what's behind her, she doesn't see the electric scooter directly in her path. The rider sees her just in time and swerves, almost (but not quite) falling over. I look up and see that my bus is now seventeen minutes away. My house is a ten-minute walk from here, and that last espresso has kicked in. Time to go.
