Saturday afternoon at the House of a Hundred Grandmothers. A letter from the manager about the acute care Seder: "You help fulfill the promise of the psalm, Don't cast me off in my old age.'" Downstairs, workers arrange the dining hall for those who will eat there. For those who will eat upstairs, most workers take carts up in elevators, roll them to the rooms, and deliver the meals; the religious Jewish workers climb the stairs, bringing the dinners in separate bags. I eat with my family in their apartment, join the prayers for the end of the Sabbath, then walk home to prepare for another early morning at work.
