A Give-and-Take box has sprouted on a sidewalk bench nearby. The last time that I passed it, it held a single children's CD. The time before that, there was also a glass serving plate, still in its open packaging. Another box, near the supermarket, is filled with English-language trade paperbacks of former pulp bestsellers. This one now holds two plastic bags. One is packed with women's garments that I can't identify at a glance, as well as a single shoe. The other holds six translucent iPhone cases, fitting the older, smaller phones that are still more common here. I consider taking one but don't. My current case is secure and sufficiently attractive. Many random objects have traveled here with me for reasons that I can't recall. Some of them might be waiting for their moment in the box, in hopes that they might find a welcoming home.
