The pedestrian street is littered with something like grapefruit, though the skins are thinner and green. Each split open when it hit the ground. Each has been nibbled by unseen creatures. In my yard, fruit that looks on the outside like apples and on the inside like figs has fallen on the steps and furniture. The sweet odor of its decay greets me as I step out the door.
