Faux pas: I didn't cover my head during the prayers at the dinner table to end the Sabbath. I didn't even think of it. "That's so American," I'm told. "Any Israeli Jewish man would have grabbed a napkin, at least, and put it on his head." Why didn't I? Each time before, I must have been wearing one of my baseball caps. And, thinking about it, it wasn't clear to me as an immigrant whether even non-religious Israeli Jews would do so. I guess they would. Now I know.
